Another serious recognition of Szoboszlai

The national team, which left Salzburg and moved to Leipzig, finished third in the Footballer of the Year vote in Austria.

With the Bayern Munich, German champion and Champions League winner David Alaba was chosen as the best footballer of the year in Austria, with the Hungarian national team Dominik Szoboszlai finishing third in the voting.

The 28-year-old Alaba closed the lead for the seventh time, organized by the Austrian news agency and in which the head coaches of 12 teams in the Austrian Bundesliga voted. Alaba scored 33 points, RB Leipzig Legionnaire finished second with 17 points and Red Bull Salzburg finished third with Leipzig last week with 13 points. With his seventh victory record, Alaba was the best of the Year six times without interruption between 2011 and 2016.

The defender won all five possible trophies this year with Bayern, the Bundesliga and the BL, as well as the German Cup and the German and European Super Cups. Alaba's contract expires in Munich at the end of this season, an extension has not yet been agreed.

Szoboszlai became a key player for Salzburg this year, followed by his teammates, goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi and defender Willi Orbán, for his team, Leipzig, who was third in the German lead and BL-eighth finalist.

In the vote, Szoboszlai finished first with Alex Pastor, who runs Altach, and the coach justified his choice by saying that the Hungarian midfielder "ran a perfect season and is technically one of the best footballers in Austria". Szoboszlai's third place also means that he is in the lead among the players in the Austrian league. Interestingly, at Red Bull Salzburg head coach, Szoboszlai did not make it into the top three. The national team midfielder was second with two coaches and third with two others, so the 13 points came together - the first place was 5 points, the second 3 points and the third 1 point.
