Alex Cintron, one of the coaches of the Houston Astros in the North American Professional Baseball League (MLB), has been banned from firing a fight for twenty matches.
The coach responsible for batting players got into a hassle in Sunday’s match against Oakland Athletics with Ramon Laureano, who had previously been thrown with a heavy ball by a player from Astros. Cintron hurled Laureano toward the bench, who suddenly started running toward him.
In a closed goalie match due to the coronavirus epidemic, several of Houston’s players threw themselves at the heated rival, and for that, players rushed in from both bench benches and pushed each other.
Cintron was twenty while Laureano could not be present in six matches, and both were also fined, the amount of which was not disclosed.
Fifteen years ago, no such severe punishment was imposed for unsportsmanlike conduct on the pitch: in 2005, Kenny Rogers (Texas Rangers) received a twenty-match ban and a fine for insulting two cameramen.
